PermissionTV Releases Development Kit

Online video platform provider PermissionTV Inc. is offering up its development tools to customers that want to create more interactive video experiences using its management platform.

PermissionTV today announced the availability of a platform development kit (PDK) and Solutions Hub that will enable customers to develop their own video players and interactive applications.

With the PDK, the company is offering up a number of application programming interfaces (APIs) and Web services to link into PermissionTV's video platform. The PDK features programmmable objects with tutorials, as well as reference designs that developers can extend to suit their own needs.

Meanwhile, the Solutions Hub provides customers access to a range of available technologies from partner companies that work with the PermissionTV platform. Examples include integration with technologies from GridNetworks Inc. , Move Networks Inc. , and Tremor Media .

Prior to releasing the PDK, PermissionTV gave limited quick-start tools to its customers and provided custom development if they had more advanced needs. But now, PermissionTV vice president of product management Corey Halverson says, "We're giving control out to customers without the complexity of customization."

While the company might lose some custom development revenues, Halverson says he expects higher volumes for the overall platform with the availability of the development tools. Already, PermissionTV claims to have two dozen customers working with the tools.
